CITY DRINKING Review

The bottle is striking with its simpllicity - black with bold white lettering Bulldog Gin is unmistakable and hits out at you from the shelf. There is a great feature of a collar wrapped around the neck of the bottle which further distingushes Bulldog from its rivals.

As you open the bottle, straight away the perfume from the gin flows from the collared bottle, with a delightfully aggressive fruity, herbal scent that stays in your nose and trickles down your throat, so much you can taste the gin.

Bulldog Gin has a bite to match its bark, the flavour erupts in your mouth exploding with fruity, floral flavours of the blended juniper, dragon eye, poppy, lemon, coriander, liquorice, lotus leaves, cassia, almond, lavender & orris. With such a range of complex floral and fruity elements the risk is that they could muddle and not give any definition of flavour. However it is clear that the makers of Bulldog Gin have taken their time to create a mix of these varying tones to create one clear flavour. Instead of a layering effect Bulldog is a uniquely compliment of tastes that has created one powerful, distinct flavour. The flavour you get when you first open the bottle follows through when you drink Bulldog Gin, there is a real ‘zing’ that happens on your lips and tongue as the spice and warmth from the gin glides through your mouth. The deep and immediate nature of the flavour could possibly be too much for people looking for a familiar, simpler juniper heavy flavoured gin, but the great thing about gins is their diversity. The flavour has a great length with that floral flavour that has been created resting on your tastebuds for a significant time, never altering or having anykind of real bitter aftertaste. In stead the aftertaste maintains that initial spike, and gently fades with the citrus refreshing finish just in time for another sip.

Bulldog Gin would work well when mixed with other fruits or served short over ice, producing a nice balance to the deep strength of the Bulldog Gin. We suggest keeping it simple with this gin as Bulldog certainly isn’t.
